Akash Jash is a PhD Candidate in Sociology at the Institute for Social and Economic Change, Bengaluru. His project investigates the transformation of Bengaluru’s lakes from irrigation tanks to urban water bodies, analyzing the socio-spatial practices, governance frameworks, and power relations underpinning this evolution across colonial and contemporary contexts. Holding a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Sociology from Jadavpur University, his academic interests span Urban and Environmental Sociology, along with specific interests in ethnographic and archival methodologies. He is also an active member of the Junior Sociologists Network of the International Sociological Association.
