As an AHRC Doctoral Fellow at the University of Edinburgh, my academic journey has led me into the fascinating intersection of tradition and technology. My PhD research focuses on the emerging phenomenon of digital devotionality within Hinduism in India, where the age-old practices of faith are being transformed through digital mediums.
In this exploration, I explore how the internet, social media, and mobile applications are reshaping the ways devotees interact with the divine. I examine the rich tapestry of rituals, prayers, and community building that now extend beyond physical temples into digital spaces. Through fieldwork, interviews, and digital ethnography, I aim to comprehend the experiences of individuals who navigate their spirituality in online environments, whether by participating in live-streamed rituals, engaging in devotional practices on the mobile application, or partaking in religious discussion on social platforms. This research elucidates the impact of technology on religious practices while also prompting significant enquiries regarding authenticity, accessibility, and the future of devotional life.
