Professor Singh has over twenty-five years of teaching experience. Before joining the National Law Institute University (NLIU) Bhopal in September 2006, he was a Guest Lecturer at the University of Lucknow’s Anthropology (Affiliated Colleges), Sociology, and Social Work departments. He has also taught as Faculty of M.B.A. (H.R. & I.R.) at the Institute of Management Sciences, University of Lucknow. He holds postgraduate degrees in Anthropology and Sociology, with specializations in social-cultural anthropology and political sociology. As an Anthropology student, he submitted his M.A. dissertation on “Development Prospectus among the Bhils of Mount Abu in Rajasthan”. He completed his doctoral work in Anthropology on “Continuity and Change among the Tharus of Lakhimpur Kheri District in U.P.” This work details the Tharu tribe’s present status and the changes they face in their socio-cultural aspects in contemporary India.

He has working experience in National and International Projects including UNDP-NLIU, Ministry of Justice, Government of India (Access To Justice) Project titled ‘Examining and Strengthening Informal Justice Systems in Madhya Pradesh’ , ‘Role and Status of Customary Laws in the Development of Baiga, Bharia and Saharia PVTGs of Madhya Pradesh: A Socio- Anthropological Studies’ awarded by ICSSR, New Delhi under the Major Research Project, and ‘Community Mediation: An Indian Traditional Knowledge System in Resolving Disputes’ by the IKS Division of Ministry of Education, Government of India, etc.  He has worked among the major tribal groups of India like Bhil, Bhilala, Gond, Bharia,  Tharus, etc.

Apart from his academic duties (teaching and guiding B.A.LL.B. (Hons.), LL.M. and Doctoral Students), he has also been responsible for administrative tasks such as being a Member of the Executive Council (2017-20), a Member of the Academic Council (2016-19, 2022-till date), Assistant Proctor, Warden Boys Hostel, Member of IQAC, Member of Examination Committee, Chairman of Internal Examination Audit Committee, Member of Internal Complaints Committee(ICC), Member of Grievance Redressal Committee, and Member (Team Leader), NAAC, Coordination Committee at NLIU, Bhopal, Member of Board of Studies (BOS) of Central and State Universities, Member of the Board of Examiners for evaluation of Ph.D. theses, Nominated, Member of Selection Committee by the Department of Higher Education, Government of Madhya Pradesh for the appointment of Vice Chancellor in a University. Additionally, he is engaged in research and training activities.

As a Co-coordinator, he has conducted ten training programs on Laws related to Women and Children for Government and Non-Government Officers of Madhya Pradesh (on a convergence basis), organized by the Centre for Gender and Health Laws of NLIU, Bhopal in collaboration with the Directorate of Women Empowerment, Department of Women and Child Development, Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal. He has also conducted five Training Programs as Co-coordinator on the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2000 for the members of the Juvenile Justice Board and Child Welfare Committee (CWC) of Madhya Pradesh, organized by the Centre for Gender and Health Laws of NLIU, Bhopal in collaboration with the Directorate of Women Empowerment, Department of Women and Child Development, Madhya Pradesh, Bhopal.

He has authored over fifty publications that have been featured in well-known international and national journals such as American Anthropologist, Environment and Social Psychology, The Eastern Anthropologist, The Oriental Anthropologist, Gender Forum, Indian Journal of Dalit and Tribal Studies and Social Action, Educational Administration: Theory and Practice (Indexed by Scopus), and Journal of Social Anthropology, etc., and as chapters to books published by renowned publishers such as Cambridge University Press, Vietnam National University- HCMC Press, and Rawat Publications, etc. Additionally, he has published four books: Social Inequality and Exclusion of Scheduled Tribes in India (published by Lambert, Germany), Tribal Culture and Society (published by Mittal Publications, New Delhi), Affirmative Action in India: Issues and Perspectives (Edited by him and published by Mittal Publications, New Delhi), and Empowerment of Tribal Women in India: Issues and Perspectives (Principal Editor and published by Mittal Publications, New Delhi).

In addition to delivering lectures on various Socio-Legal topics such as Tribal and Customary Law, Law and Social Transformation, Gender and Law, Laws related to the Weaker Sections, Law and Development, Legal Education and Interdisciplinary Approach(NEP 2020), and Research Methodology, etc., in different academic institutions such as UGC HRDCs of Central Universities, State Universities, National Law Universities, IIMs, IIFM, RCVP Noronha Academy of Administration, etc., he has also been actively involved with the State Public Service Commission of some States. He has participated in over 150 Conferences, Seminars, and Workshops in various capacities such as Paper Presenter, Resource Person, Key Speaker, Session Chair, Chief Guest, Guest of Honor, and Organizer, etc. Additionally, he is a life member of many key academic/research bodies such as the Ethnographic and Folk Culture Society (EFCS), Indian Sociological Society, Indian Society of Criminology, Indian National Confederation & Academy of Anthropologists (INCAA), and United Indian Anthropology Forum (UIAF), etc.

 

His primary areas of teaching and research include Sociological Theories, Society and Culture in India, Social-Cultural Anthropology, Tribal and Customary Law, Sociology of Law, Legal Anthropology, Caste and Law, Gender and Law, Law Relating to Affirmative Action, Law and Social Transformation, Law and Rural Development, and Law and Urban Development.
