Dr. Dalia Chakraborty is Professor of Sociology, Jadavpur University, Kolkata. Her areas of research interests include visuals, food, culture, everyday life, market, cities, research methods and applied sociology. She is the author of book titled Colonial Clerks: A Social History of Deprivation and Domination (K P Bagchi); book chapters in edited volumes like chapters on visual sociology and on founding father of Indian Sociology in two distinct volumes, Readings in Indian Sociology Series (Sage); in volumes locating cultural change (Sage), on Sociology in India (Rawat), on political sociology (MacMillan India) etc. , and articles in referred journals of Sociology, Social Work, and Asian Studies.
Her teaching career begins in 1995 at Department of Sociology, University of Burdwan, India. She served Maharani Kasiswari College and Presidency College, Kolkata, before joining Jadavpur University in 2005. She holds the position of Professor of Sociology there from 2010.
She was awarded a Ph.D. degree in Sociology by Calcutta University, India. in 2001. She did her MA in Sociology from Centre for the Study of Social Systems, School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. 1994, and BA Honours in Sociology from Presidency College, Kolkata in 1992.
