Deepak Ojha is a PhD candidate at the Department of Sociology, Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi, India. He holds an M.Phil. degree in sociology from the Delhi School of Economics (dissertation title “Internet Hinduism: A Study of Reframing of Rituals, Mythology and Hindu History in Digital Age”) and a Master’s degree in Sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. His PhD research investigates the intersection of digital technology, consumption culture and religious practices in the digital age through ethnographic study at Temples in India. Primarily, focuses on the modernisation and digital transformation of Hindu temples and rituals and reviews several issues concerning legitimacy, authenticity, the role of authority, commodification of religious objects and the validity of ritual in the digital era.
