Dr Bhavna Sood is an Assistant Professor and presently Heading the Post Graduate Department of Sociology at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, India. She is currently the Board member of Thematic Group 03 Human Rights and Global Justice of International Sociological Association ISA, also a Board member of Sociology (Undergraduate) at Panjab University, Chandigarh, since 2019 and also a Board member of Sociology (Undergraduate) at Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar. She is an Elected Executive Member of North Western Indian Sociological Association (NWISA). She did her Masters (2001) and PhD (2007) in Sociology under the able guidance of Prof Sherry Sabharwal, a renowned Sociologist, on the topic “Career Aspirations and Lifestyles of Adolescents–A Study of Educational and Social Influences.” She has published 16 research papers in various reputed national and international journals and books. She has presented 27 research papers in national and international conferences and seminars. She received the National Level award “Academic Excellence in Sociology” by Women Impresario in association with Law Colloquy at Indore on 25th March, 2023. She was felicitated by the Chandigarh SACS (State AIDS Control Society) as the convenor of Red Ribbon Club for the college on International Women’s Day – Gender equality Today for a Sustained Tomorrow on 8th March, 2022 and also at Two Day National Conference AIDSCON 12 – towards AIDS free World on 10th March, 2023. She has recently published a book titled “Basics of Sociology”. Her areas of interest include: Sociology of development, Sociological theory, Youth studies, environment and Gender.
