With 50 Years of teaching and research experience, Prof. R. Indira has served as Senior Professor of Sociology at the University of Mysore a Visiting Fellow at Delhi University, Sri Venkateswara University, University of Johannesburg & Scholar-in-Residence at Bangalore & Kuvempu Universities. A Lifetime Achievement Awardee from the Indian Sociological Society in 2022, she has been President(2018-2019), Secretary(2014, 2015) and Member of the Managing Committee (2002-2007) of the Indian Sociological Society, a two-time Fulbright Scholar, and a four-time Shastri Fellow. She is a recipient of many honours and recognitions from national and international forums, media and literary societies for her writings and work on  themes related to gender, sustainable livelihoods, marginalised communities  and strengthening women’s agency.
