Manita Subba is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at Sikkim Manipal University. She holds a Master of Arts in Sociology from the Central University of Sikkim, where she graduated with a CGPA of 7.81 and received a Silver Medal for academic excellence. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Sikkim Government College, Tadong, with a CGPA of 7.22. She has also successfully cleared the UGC-NET for Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship twice, in December 2015 and April 2016.

She has also successfully cleared the UGC-NET for Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship twice, in December 2015 and April 2016.
Manita Subba previously served as the Head of the Department of Sociology at Sikkim Alpine University from August 2021 to February 2023. During her tenure, she played a key role in curriculum development for both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. She also held important administrative roles, including Coordinator of the Divyang Cell under the Rehabilitation Council of India and Head of the ST/SC/OBC Cell.
Her research interests include urban sociology, informal economies, and the sociology of everyday life. She has published a paper titled “Vendors’ Right to Market Space” in Social Trends, a peer-reviewed national journal of North Bengal University. She has presented papers at various national and international seminars and conferences. She has also participated in several faculty development programs.
Her academic journey also includes hands-on research during her MA and BA studies, where she conducted fieldwork on kinship structures among the Limboo community and on education and social change in rural Sikkim.
