Dr Pradeep Kumar is currently working as Assistant Professor at School of Extension and Development Studies, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) New Delhi. Before this, he has worked in other academic positions since 2003 like, the School of Continuing Education, (IGNOU) and the Distance Education Programme- Sarva Sikha Abhiyan (DEP-SSA), a MHRD national Project.
Before this, worked as Consultant for social and resettlement issues of national programme ‘Pradhan Mantri Gramin SadakYojna’ at High Point Rendal (UK based consultancy) New Delhi; Research Project- ‘Comparative Study of Street Vendors between two global cities- Cairo (Egypt) and New Delhi (India)’ at Centre De Sciences Humaine (a research unit of French Embassy) New Delhi (2001-2002) and guest faculty for MBA programme, course ‘Indian Culture and Ethics’ at Institute of Management and Development (New Delhi).
Area of Interest: Development Studies,Developmental Sociology, Non-Governmental Organisations and Civil Society, Entrepreneurship, Tribal Policy, Heath and Development, UrbanDevelopment.
Academic Qualifications: Doctorate in Sociology (2003) from the Centre for the Study of Social System, School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University (New Delhi). The thesis title is ‘Voluntary Organizations and Tribal Participation: A Sociological Study of Selected NGOs at South Rajasthan’. Master of Philosophy (1996-98) the Centre for Study of Social System, School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University (New Delhi). During M.Phil submitted a dissertation titled ‘Entrepreneurship and Society in India: A Sociological Analysis’. Master Degree in Sociology (1996) with specialization in Developmental Sociology from Punjab University, Chandigarh.
Fellowship and Award: Doctoral fellowship and Post Doctoral fellowship from Indian Council of Social Science Research (Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, New Delhi). Award in national category by the Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust (Jammu and Kashmir) for research on nomedic/ semi-nomedic tribes of Jammu and Kashmir (2006). Award of Research Excellence Programme (2012), University of Santiago de Compostela, Santiago (Spain).
Academic Contributions: Preparation of print material for master’s programme of rural development and sociology and development studies at IGNOU, New Delhi. Contributed research articles in research journals and presented seminar papers on above mentioned interest areas.
