Dr. Sampat Kale (M.A., Ph.D. in Sociology) presently working as a Senior Assistant Professor with the School of Rural Development, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Tuljapur Off-Campus, Mumbai, India possesses a rich expertise of both classroom teaching and field-experience of over more than two-decades.
Recently, Dr. Kale served as the Associate Dean (Administrative Affairs), TISS Tuljapur-Off Campus while also simultaneously heading the M.A./M.Sc. in Sustainable Livelihoods and Natural Resources Governance (SLNG) as the Programme Convenor at the School of Rural Development. Additionally, he also heads the Social Protection Office (SPO) on Campus particularly looking into the affairs of students belonging to the disadvantaged groups while also serving as a Member of the Board of Studies (BOS), TISS Tuljapur Off-Campus over the past couple of years now.
A distinct lifetime member of both the Indian Sociological Society (INSOSO), New Delhi and the Marathi Samajshastra Parishad (MSSP), Dr. Sampat Kale is also a registered member of the International Sociological Association (ISA), Madrid, Spain and has been presenting his research work at various Conferences and Seminars not just pan-India but also across International platforms too. Having been elected as the Convenor of Research Committee-29 Social Transformation and Development of the Indian Sociological Society (INSOSO), Dr. Kale has been leading the members of the said committee very meticulously by organizing Guest Lectures, Seminars and Workshops to encourage crucial debates from scholars and academicians across the country.
Apart from this, Dr. Kale has also served as a Member of the Committee on ‘Farmer Suicides in Osmanabad District’ Government of Maharashtra in the year 2013-2015. His role as a Project Co-Director on the ‘Socio-Anthropological Study of the Dhangar Community of Maharashtra’ aided by the Government of Maharashtra, was constituted by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) in the year 2016-2018 post which he even served as a Representative from the Marathwada Region to the State Advisor of Supreme Court Commissioner on the ‘Right to Food and Monitoring Food and Shelter Programme’ in the year 2012-2015.
Dr. Kale’s deep involvement and commitment towards the communities of the Marathwada Region in Maharashtra has thus been incredible. Furthermore, he has also worked as a Faculty supervisor for the Programme of ‘Prime Minister’s Rural Development Fellows (PMRDF), Government of India, from 2012-2015 thus gaining a close insight of the lives and livelihoods of the marginal communities. His latest role being that of a Member of the Advisory Committee for ‘A Study on the Impact of Droughts Catalysed by Climate Change on the Dalits and the Adivasis of Marathwada Region of Maharashtra’ by National Campaign on Dalit Human Rights (NCDHR), New Delhi that was conducted in 2022.
