PhD in Anthropology from the University of Mysore (through the Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC), Bangalore) under the supervision of the Late Prof. M.N. Srinivas (last student of MNS). Has both teaching and research experience for more than 40 years.

Guided research (PhD and M. Phil) and published papers in refereed journals, edited volumes and anthologies, and edited books. Also served on the editorial boards of journals. Undertook multi-disciplinary research and consultancy projects for multilateral funding and research agencies.

Associated with two National Commissions (Renake and Idate) for Denotified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes, Government of India.

Member for two Danish Missions in Karnataka (1989 and 2003) on Environment Master Planning and Watershed Management. Associated with ERASMUS+ projects – EQUAL, INNOTAL and HARMONY; COL-CEMCA project; and University Social Responsibility (USR) project undertaken jointly with UEA, UKIBC and UoH.

Currently, a Member of the Information Ethics Working Group, UNESCO-IFAP (Information for All Programme) and a Steering Committee Member of Translations Commons.
