Dr. SOUMITRA SARKAR

I have completed my Ph.D. in 2025, focusing my research on “The Rise of Care Industry: A Sociological Study of Old Age Homes in West Bengal.” This doctoral research explored the social dynamics, challenges, and implications of the growing demand for elderly care services in the region. Prior to my Ph.D., I obtained my M.Phil. degree in 2013, with a research focus on the “Theme Based Durga Puja of Kolkata: Impact & Changes upon Socio-economic Sectors”. This research delved into the cultural significance of Durga Puja and its evolving nature, examining its influence on various aspects of society.
My professional qualifications include qualifying for the State Eligibility Test (SET) conducted by the West Bengal College Service Commission (WBCSC) in 2010, demonstrating the aptitude for teaching and research at the college level. I have also qualified for the National Eligibility Test (NET) organized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2014, further solidifying my credentials as a qualified academician. I obtained my M.Phil. degree from Jadavpur University (JU) during the session 2011-2013. I further enhanced my expertise in applied sociology by completing a UGC-sponsored Certificate Course in Applied Sociology from Jadavpur University in 2013. I have also holds a Post Graduation in Public Administration from Netaji Subhas Open University (NSOU), which I completed during the session 2015-2017.
