Biographical Info

Dr. Sreemoyee Gupta has served as a Lecturer in Sociology at Mrinalini Datta Mahavidyapith since 2009, with over sixteen years of teaching and research experience. She served as Head of the Department (2009–2017) and has played a pivotal role in institutional development by connecting the department to national and community-based initiatives such as the ASER Survey, student training with CINI, and the publication of the departmental journal Verstehen.

Her teaching and research interests include Sociological Theories, Research Methodology, Gender Studies, Economic Sociology, and Indian Sociology. She adopts participatory and flexible teaching methods, integrating discussions, real-life illustrations, and audio-visual aids to promote inclusive learning.

Beyond teaching, Dr. Gupta has held several important positions including Convenor of the Media and Outreach Committee (2017–2021), Convenor of the Women’s Cell (2015–2017), and Convenor of the Placement Cell (2015–2017). She also coordinates the Online Certificate Course on Human Rights and Gender Studies in collaboration with the Centre for Gender Studies and Media, WBSU.

She was actively associated with the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) and CINI as a trainer in child rights and protection and has conducted training on women empowerment for organizations such as Bharat Petroleum and the Power Development Corporation of West Bengal.

Dr. Gupta has presented papers at national and international conferences and was awarded Best Presenter at the International Conclave on Gender Equity in Modern Workplaces (2025). Her publications include research on caste, gender, digital inequality, and indigenous economies.

Through her scholarly engagement and academic leadership, Dr. Gupta continues to contribute significantly to the field of Sociology in teaching, research, and community outreach.

Dr Sreemoyee Gupta is a member of the Indian Sociological Society RC-25.
