Dr. Suraj Beri is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Sociology, Nagaland University (A Central University), Lumami. His area of research includes social inequality, elite studies, regional politics, caste-class relations, urban spaces, social change, social theory and the political economy of development. He completed his PhD from the Centre for the Study of Social Systems, School of Social Sciences- JNU, in 2019.
Prior to his current position, Dr. Beri held teaching positions at prestigious institutions including Indraprastha College for Women, LSR College, Janki Devi Memorial College, and Maitreyi College and also contributed to research on social inequalities in South Asia as a Visiting Research Fellow at Humboldt University, Berlin, in 2014.
Dr. Beri’s scholarly contributions include research publications in esteemed journals such as Transcience-Humboldt University, International Sociology, Bharatiya Samajshastra Sameeksha-Sage, Social Trends, Sociological Bulletin, and Contemporary South Asia.
He contributed book chapters to the volumes such as Politics of the Anthropocene and Climate Crisis in India Seeking Socio-Ecological Transformations Edited by Purendra Prasad and Lalatendu Keshari Das (2026), Routledge, London.
Global Capital and Social Difference (2020) ed. by V. Sujatha and
Encyclopedia of New Populism and Responses in the 21st Century (2023) eds. Joseph Chacko Chennattuserry, Madhumati Deshpande, Paul Hong.
He also shares his insights and reviews of latest works through platforms/blogs like the The Wire, Countercurrents, LSE Review of Books & Doing Sociology, The Social Quest.
