Shweta Prasad completed her higher education at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, and joined teaching in 2000. She is actively engaged in research in the areas of Women and globalization, Corporate Social Responsibility and Women Empowerment, Violence against women, International migration of women and their marginalization, various aspects of the Women-Technology interface including women in call centers, and the empowerment/ impoverishment of women due to the application of new agricultural technologies.
She has received the "Leadership Training Award for Asian Women in Agriculture R&D" at the International Rice Research Institute, Philippines. Simultaneously, she led the social science component of the project "Cereal Systems Initiative for South Asia" (Objective 6.2)- an International project in collaboration with the IRRI, Philippines funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the World Bank, and the USAID in the eastern UP hub. She also received the UGC- Research Award (2014-16) for working on CSR and women empowerment. Earlier, she completed a UGC major research project on Women Call Centre employees. She had also completed two pioneering short-term projects at the Centre for Women's Studies and Development, FSS, BHU on Female Foeticide and Domestic Violence. In the recent past, she is working with faculties from Michigan State University, USA, and the Institute of Agricultural Sciences, BHU towards establishing a Gender Responsive Agriculture for Development center at the Banaras Hindu University.
