Dr. Avinash Ranjan is a postdoctoral fellow at IIT Guwahati, specializing in environmental Sociology with an emphasis on water quality, political ecology, and the socio-environmental impacts of energy transitions. He completed his Ph.D. at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, where he investigated the political ecology of drinking water accessibility in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, integrating geographic and socio-political analysis. Dr. Ranjan holds advanced degrees in Geography and Environmental Sciences and has furthered his expertise with international certifications in energy policy and geoinformatics.

His career includes roles as assistant professor and project fellow at respected Indian institutions, reflecting his commitment to both teaching and research excellence. Dr. Ranjan’s publication record features studies on groundwater quality, arsenic contamination, and the impacts of coal-fired power plants, contributions presented at leading national and international conferences. His current research engages deeply with the spatial and social dynamics of energy transition and environmental justice, employing mixed-methods and geospatial approaches to address urgent challenges of water governance in coal-dependent regions.
