Dr. Pirzada Athar Hussain is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Ladakh, Kargil campus. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology with a postdoctoral fellowship from ICSSR, and his academic journey includes advanced studies at Barkatullah University in Bhopal and research appointments at institutions such as the University of Jammu and the Madras Institute of Development Studies.​

His research interests span family life, marriage and divorce, social conflict, and urban sociology, with a particular focus on the causes and consequences of divorce among Muslim communities in Kashmir. Dr. Hussain has contributed to scholarly work in areas such as minority studies, gender dynamics, child welfare, and community development, and brings experience from both university and NGO sectors. As an active academic and social development expert, he continues to mentor students and engage in research aimed at understanding and addressing critical social phenomena.
