An accomplished postgraduate in Communication Studies, Journalism, Media Management and Sociology. With strong oral and written communication skills, I bring with me academic learnings and professional experience in the broader realms of communication and society. My interests broadly include society, mass media, culture and a bit of personal finance in India’s context. In 2005, I began my professional journey with media internships and since have gathered both fulltime and freelance work experience.
My formative background in print journalism trained me in line editing, developing editor’s eye for detail and structured writing. In areas of document layout, formatting, content planning, dealing with crisis and delivering on-the-spot solutions. Working in a quick-paced setting, multi-tasking daily between managing desk functions and field work, I developed the concept of editorial judgment. The experience further trained me in effective interpersonal communication. In skills like ideating, research, resource generation, contacting people, preparing, asking questions, conversation and interviewing to develop different types of articles. In tandem with desk functions of – editing reporters’ raw copies, monitoring news agencies; page layouts on QuarkXPress, photo selection, intra-department coordination, broadly adhering to the AP style guide.
As freelance writer, I learned new approaches and my range of work includes – teaching journalism, contributing my research papers in conferences, writing and editing. As editorial consultant, I have successfully delivered copy editing services for theses, research papers and articles. Research scholars and professors from esteemed Indian universities entrusted me with their valuable work for basic copy editing and proofreading before their final submission. I have delivered well within deadline despite tight time limits. The candidates have successfully completed their PhD.
My skills have strengthened with time and experience; I am evolving into a sociology and media research writer. I have improved capabilities of analytical thinking, field understanding, interpreting social issues, balancing theory and practical optimally.
