Subhasis Satpathy is a Research Scholar in the P.G. Department of Sociology at Utkal University, Odisha. He completed his undergraduate studies in Zoology and later pursued a Postgraduate degree in Sociology from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). His academic transition from the natural sciences to sociology reflects an interdisciplinary orientation and a broader interest in understanding social life, institutions, and inequalities.

Prior to entering academic research, he worked with South Indian Bank for two years, gaining professional experience in the banking sector and organisational settings.

His doctoral research, titled “Contextualising Spoiled Identities of Sanitation Workers in Urban Space: A Sociological Study in Bhubaneswar,” examines the social identities and lived experiences of sanitation workers within the urban context. The study engages with issues of stigma, social exclusion, occupational identity, dignity, and the ways in which sanitation work shapes the social experiences and identities of workers in an urban setting.

His academic interests broadly include sociology of work and occupation, social stigma and identity, urban sociology, social inequality, and the lived experiences of marginalised occupational groups.
